A day at work...

Yesterday was my first work day of the week. I played all day! I started off working with a little boy with autism, and we got to swing, then play with bubbles and balls! He had fun at first, but when things didn't go his way, he began to hit and get quite aggressive. Nothing I haven't dealt with before. It is always good for them to work through this to start to learn to follow rules and routines. Later I worked with another little guy and we got to work on eating new foods, and tolerating movement on swings and spinning and rocking in colorful plastic tubs. Later in the afternoon, I got to help a couple older boys with their handwriting issues, and listen to one tell me all about how he loves country music, and especially the banjo! He is so cute! My day ended with another boy who is struggling to listen and follow directions, so we worked with that, and I encouraged his very tired, worn out mom. They left on a pretty good note! And, there were no meetings to attend! Now that is a good day at work!
This is a pretty typical workday for me, minus the paperwork, emails, and phone calls that I also do each day. Is my job fun, or what? Pediatric Occupational therapy is such a great career! I love it! However, I missed my girls so much yesterday, and wanted to be home! Can you imagine? I have worked at this place for 10 years, and I love every day I have worked there, yet, I want to be home. God has been preparing me for this, and growing me in this direction for a few years now. I am excited to tell you what has come about! Right now, my little ones are calling! Check back soon!

Sounds like it was a busy and productive day! Can't wait to read your exciting news!

Care to share any tips from the OT stand point of helping a child learn to write?! Kayla is struggling in this area...she makes lines and rough circles, but that's about it. She doesn't trace or copy and I don't know how to help her "get it"...she did get OT in preschool (on summer break now), but I'm not sure what things the OT was doing to help in this area.

What a wonderful and rewarding job! As a nurse in my past life...I understand how rewarding it is to work with others and take care of their needs. I enjoyed working with geriatrics. What a special gift you have working with kiddos! Have a great day!

Hi Michelle!
I'm so glad that you stopped by to visit. I'll have to let you know how that dishwashing business goes. I am determined to enjoy it no matter what. Already I have enjoyed the special quiet time I get with whichever son happens to be drying for me. I think I might just get to like it regardless of the money savings ... well maybe. LOL

I just loved reading about your day. For 10 years our little boy has made daily then weekly trips to his Pediatric OT. I have loved those sweet ladies like they are our own family. What a precious gift to give to families like ours! I don't know what we would do without all of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you from a mom who knows.

I'm looking forward to visiting with you more.

Blessings,
Lea

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for visiting our blog and for your kind words! I take one of my little girls to OT and when my teenager watched a few sessions...she told me that looked like such a cool job! I guess like all jobs, though it has its challenges.

You have a beautiful family...have a great day!!!
